Wikipedia defines veganism as "a philosophy and lifestyle that seeks to exclude the use of animals for food, clothing, or any other purpose. Vegans do not use or consume animal products of any kind. The most common reasons for becoming a vegan are ethical commitment or moral convictions concerning animal rights, the environment, human health, and spiritual or religious concerns."
Dr. Michio Kaku, one of the world's leading physicists, once called the worldwide web "the communication system of a Type One Civilisation". Type One --- that's really good, a bit further along the evolutionary track. There are a few hopeful signs. There seems to be a new "green revolution" happening these days, and the web is playing a central role, now making it possible for alternative vegan food companies such as VeggieBrothers to connect with potential customers all over the US and Canada. Online ordering via a company website also has serious advantages. Instead of being forced or limited to purchasing what happens to be on local store shelves, one has the entire inventory of a company at one's disposal. If you're tired of eating the same-old-same-old products over and over again because that's all you can find locally, now all-of-a-sudden you have total access to scores of interesting items. You order, and a couple of days later a very large, frozen insulated box of vegan food is delivered right to your front door!
Not long ago I ordered from Veggie Brothers and absolutely enjoyed every single item, finding everything to be very wonderful: extremely tasty, quite nutritious, also providing good energy levels as most everything was high in quality protein.
Recently during a phone conversation with Michael Balducci, president and co-founder of VeggieBrothers, he described his philosophy to me as being about introducing more and more people to vegan food in order to effect positive change, "sharing these healthy dishes that taste so good with the rest of the world." This is a taste-buds strategy of "vegan cuisine for the mainstream". He says, "When you have a substitute cuisine that is far healthier than what you are currently eating, but tastes virtually identical to what you're currently eating and someone else is making it for you, then you have the paradox of changing your diet without changing your diet."
I also like this quote from him: "When do we make an effort to understand who we are spiritually, where did we come from, what's our true purpose in life, where do we go when we die, and what preparations do we need to make now for the next journey ahead? When we are on our deathbed? When do we as a people start understanding the relationship between our diet, our health, our economics, our relationship with nature and with our Creator, and the perils of Global Warming?" "Most of the good health you can expect to experience within your lifetime is under your own control. Eating a vegan diet, rich in organic super nutrients not only improves and maintains health, but the positive effect of these personal choices reverberate through our world in so many good ways. The world economy is powered by a simple force: that of supply and demand. If you demand better things, the force will supply them. You are being directed, on a daily basis, to want supplies that are currently in popular demand, by the companies that sell them. You can change the world! Just open your mind and do the right thing. Enjoy a life of health and happiness. Go Vegan!" (Michael Balducci, of VeggieBrothers)
